WACKENHUT SERVICES CAPTURES DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY SECURITY PROTECTION OFFICER TRAINING CHAMPIONSHIP
WSI Teams Take Three of Top Four Spots in Annual DOE Competition

AIKEN, S.C. - Wackenhut Services Incorporated–Savannah River Site (WSI-SRS) recently won the top award at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Security Protection Officer Training Competition (SPOTC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. WSI teams from Oak Ridge and the Nevada Test Site placed second and fourth, respectively, in the eight-team competition, which included the largest sites in DOE.

SPOTC is a tactical, skills-oriented firearms competition held at the National Training Center’s Safeguards and Security Central Training Academy. The four-day event was open to teams of protective force officers from the DOE community across the nation.

“We are proud of our team for once again validating Wackenhut Service's security capabilities at this very challenging event,” said James H. “Bud” Isom, the WSI-SRS General Manager. “This competition requires that teams be physically fit, exhibit sound tactics and demonstrate shooting proficiency in a variety of events.”

WSI teams have earned the Secretary’s Trophy five-out-of-the-last-six years. WSI-SRS has won the event eight times (1984, 1985, 1986, 1991, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008) and WSI-Oak Ridge, which began competing in 2000, won the trophy in 2003.

“I want to congratulate the WSI teams from all of our sites on their performances and also commend the men and women who train them,” WSI President and CEO Dave Foley said.

The WSI-SRS SPOTC Team was selected from a pool of volunteers and included Team Leader Casey Petosky, Tommy Goodson, Joshua Zeigler, Anthony Tisbert, Nicholas Mothershed, Jonathan Perry and Gideon Hornung. Mike Howard, a Wackenhut Training Instructor, was the team coach, and Noel Hilton was the SPOTC fitness coach.
