THERE THEY GO AGAIN!
SEIU, UNHINDERED BY THE TRUTH, GETS IT WRONG - AGAIN

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Florida - Wackenhut Services Incorporated (WSI) continued to correct false and misleading statements by the SEIU, the latest about the Department of Defense (DOD) Army base contracts that are being put out for competitive bid. SEIU released a statement yesterday falsely claiming that WSI had lost the contracts from DOD to protect military bases.

"If we hadn’t been under attack from the SEIU for the last two years and seen the reprehensible tactics that the union uses, we would be shocked by what little regard SEIU has for the truth," said WSI President David Foley. According to Foley the SEIU did have two things correct in their release. WSI does provide security for certain Army bases under the DOD contracts and DOD is putting the contracts out for competitive bidding.

That is where the SEIU version of the truth takes a left turn according to Foley, "It is implied by the SEIU that we are the only company working those contracts. This is simply not true. We are one of six different companies that currently work on the DOD contracts in question."

Foley continued to set the record straight, "SEIU also falsely claims that the problems sighted by the GAO report were caused by WSI. Again, this is not true. The GAO report did cite several noncompliance issues and problems but none of these were WSI or its teaming partner's problems. We have a history of superb performance and expect to win a portion of the Army security just as we have now."

There are other problems with SEIU’s version of the truth which Foley continued to correct, "The original contracts were sole source contracts after 9/11. The Army used that mechanism to rapidly place protection at its facilities as US soldiers had to be relieved from those duties to deploy with their units. We always knew at some point those contracts would be rebid"

WSI provides the Army outstanding service as identified by our outstanding performance award scores. "The real story here is not that we have to recompete contracts, we do that all the time and it is an essential element of US Governmental business. The story is that SEIU will use the press and any other tactic to try to force us into signing an agreement with them," remarked Foley.

Wackenhut Services Incorporated welcomes the opportunity to compete for contracts put out to bid by the Department of Defense to provide security at U.S. Army bases. WSI has been providing security at army facilities including Fort Bragg throughout the last five years.

Foley, a retired Army Brigadier General, described what an honor it is to be chosen to protect soldiers, families and Army facilities, "A large percentage of our security officers are former military personnel so they have a special appreciation of what it means to protect the Army’s forts while the nation is at war."

From its inception, WSI has focused on providing the best protection of people and property in the industry. Our history of customer satisfaction has earned us a reputation as the premier protective services organization.

We believe our success depends on the quality of our people, our commitment to service, client satisfaction, listening to and partnering with clients and in our ability to outperform our competitors in the delivery of quality and value added services in the most responsive manner.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is a mixed union that represents service workers such as janitors, cemetery workers, bus drivers and home care workers. They are currently trying to increase their membership through "corporate campaign" tactics such as picketing, hunger strikes, harassment of target companies’ customers and other unconscionable tactics.

The unprincipled reputation of the union and its officials includes:
  • SEIU filed a lawsuit, post 9/11, to try and overturn the law requiring federal baggage screeners at airports to be U. S. citizens.
  • SEIU officials have been indicted or convicted of embezzlement of union funds.
  • A former SEIU Local 99 president has been charged in a federal indictment with conspiracy and 17 counts of embezzling union funds as a result of an investigation into former Los Angeles City Councilman Martin Ludlow.
  • The New York Sun business reporter said, "SEIU now seems to depend more on corporate intimidation rather than recruiting."
  • The director of strategic research for the AFSCME union said, "UDW-AFSCME home-care workers across the state were tricked and coerced into signing membership cards with [SEIU] Local 434B."
